ESA Blog Reboot

Welcome to the Emerson Sports Academy Blog (reboot)

We will be posting each week to let our students inform families what we are up to.

As many of you know, ten week grades just came out. To celebrate the hard work of our student-athletes, we will be taking walking trips to Coffee Bean Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during AT. Students will not miss any class time. Walking trips like this are a way for ESA students to celebrate Coach Wooden's INDUSTRIOUSNESS or diligence. This is one way hard work pays off! Check with your student for the trip slip.

On Thursday, after school, we will be heading to Uni High School to watch their girls' volleyball team take on Hamilton. If your child is interested, they should have a trip slip.

Please use this blog and the website to communicate with us as needed and thanks for being part of the ESA family!

2012 Rugby Tournament

After practicing long and hard in Mr. Hastings' classes, students were put to the test in the first ever Emerson Rugby Tournament on December 14, 2012.

With help from USA Rugby, the tournament consisted of two teams per period competing against the other periods with a total of ten teams. Each team played four pool games to get seeded for the playoffs. All the teams played their playoff games leading up to the championship. Heated semi-final match-ups led to the championship game between Carlos' team: from period one and Coleman's team: from period 6.

In the end Coleman's team rose above Carlos' team in a nail biting match. After Coleman was handed the champion's cup, Gabe Okmin received an award for his outstanding sportsmanship. Congrats to the winners and players for giving this tournament their best.

Men's UCLA Baseball Game

Like the tradition it is to stop by and get lunch before a game, this April 5, ESA student-athletes rushed through Westwood Village in the search for a meal. They worked off all those calories on an exhausting walk to Jackie Robinson Stadium. ESA flooded into the seats, but most sat near the aisles in the hopes of running to catch a foul ball. A few panthers actually got one, so congrats to them! Emerson students also had the opportunity to participate in a three-legged race and a churro-eating competition. In the end the UCLA Bruins won 3-2 against the Oregon St. Beavers in a game that kept fans on their toes. With another long walk back to Emerson, panthers concluded another great game day!

Panthers on the Ice

Winter starts and ESA spent some quality family time on ice at the Santa Monica Ice Skating Rink. The Panthers boarded the blue buses and off they went. As soon as they tied up their skates, they hit the ice. Some students were clearly pros at this while others had to get used to being the ice for the first time. As a result there were many falls and spills. After all the excitement, the Panthers settled down and had dinner at the promenade. They took the blue buses back to school, and that was the end of a wonderful night.

Dodgers Vs Giants Baseball Game

A last minute field trip was announced to the ESA Panthers and off they went to Dodger Stadium. Having front row seats in suite 210 they were able to enjoy seeing their Dodgers play. The 12 lucky ESA students were greeted and given a Dodger hoodie at the entrance which they all wore as a way to show their LA pride. The 3 hour and 4 minute game was won by the Giants but the Dodgers did their part and played well. Revenge will come soon enough... Thank you, McCourt Global, for hosting the Emerson Sports Academy!

UCLA Women's Softball

Coming back from Spring Break ESA didn't hesistate to head off to a UCLA field trip. The Lady Bruins were facing the Washington Huskies in a softball game. Stopping in Westwood for a quick bite to eat, panthers were on the loose once again. Ms. Schooler also joined us after so long without seeing her.
It was followed by a long walk to the field where we were surprised by the Nakada-Gantt family. The Bruins played a great game, giving up only one hit, but they lost to the Huskies 0-1.

Turkey Shoot 2012

Having trouble shooting hoops? Come and get the practice you need from Coaches Mr. Morrison and Ms. Nakada in a one-on-one or three-on-three tournament style competition. After a long couple hours of fierce basketball training the students sat down for some Subway and Gatorade to reenergize. Congrats to Vanessa and Kevin, the one-on-one tourney champions and Kevin, Dominique and Nico who won the first Turkey Shoot three-on-three title.
